Dermalogica ProPen

Dermalogica has launched its first professional device; ProPen is an innovative new tool to unlock customisable solutions and accelerated results from advanced skin treatments.

The advanced and aesthetic treatment space has witnessed rapid growth over the last several years, with no sign of slowing down. Searches for microneedling have grown by 12%, with projected 14% growth for the market in 2023*. As an innovator in this very field, Dermalogica is set to launch a brand new product to help skin professionals take their advanced treatment business to even greater heights - introducing ProPen.

What exactly is the ProPen?

ProPen is a unique microneedling and nanoneedling system all in one. Following testing in Dermalogica's Germany market, which proved demand, the brand worked with thousands of global experts, studying the tools and techniques to unlock the best results for the professional skin therapist & their clients. Dermalogica created ProPen with the highest

standards, precision, versatility and safety in mind, developing innovative application methods to achieve optimum results.

What makes the ProPen Unique?

The ProPen comes with four cartridges to offer a variety of customisation, with a silicone spring for prevention of fluid backflow that delivers maximum hygiene. The clear cartridges improve visibility and ensure greater prodecure control. Made using sterile 304 stainless steel needles and plates, the 9-pin microneedling tip features ultra fine needles (0.18mm) and offers controlled, precise perforation and maximum penetration, whilst the 24-pin microneedling tip (0.25 mm) is carefully positioned for gentler needling, ideal for thin or sensitive skin. Two options for non-invasive nanoneedling include a 50 metal nano tip, the ideal solution for efficient and powerful resurfacing, whilst the silicon nano tip targets smaller, more precise areas, such as the eyes and lips.

Unlike other devices on the market, the ProPen follows medical grade standards of manufacturing to ensure maximum safety. The device has unique ergonomics for maximum procedure precision. ProPen has smart technology that remembers your last speed setting even after your device has been turned off, the six speeds range from 7500 to 8600 RPM, it is battery or cable operated to adjust to any environment. Pro Pen has a stich ring depth between 0.2mm- "1.5mm and is going through the process of being cleared as a medical device by the end of 2023.

"Until now, skin therapists have had to choose between devices that are higher priced with less profit or lower-priced options that lack education, customisation, and customer service," says Dermalogica CEO, Aurelian Lis. "ProPen offers more treatment options for clients and is priced to put more money back in the pockets of skin professionals. As the leaders in professional skincare education with nearly 40 years of treatment room expertise, we're always innovating to help industry pros achieve new levels of success in their business."

Lis goes on to note "With changing consumer requirements and growing excitement about things like microneedling, we see this launch as a way to get a whole new generation into this industry, which is both good for the livelihoods of those who work in the industry, but also for skin health in general. There are other needling pens on the market, but what's exciting to me is that because Dermalogica knows both peels as well as needling, we can actually create procedures and treatments which combine the two and show fabulous results".

How is the ProPen certified?

With the current industry focus in the UK around proposed incoming regulation and new licensing laws, Dermalogica has developed a training programme directly mapped to

National Occupational Standards, the Cosmetic Practice Standard Authority's Skin Rejuvenation Standard and the Level 4 Microneedling Qualification Specification, to ensure the highest practice standards that prioritise client results and safety. The Pro Pen Endorsed programme verifies competency in using the Dermalogica Pro Pen for microneedling and nanoneedling services.

The Pro Pen Endorsed programme has also been endorsed by Ofqual regulated awarding organisation CIBTAC, for the comprehensive training provision. In 2023 Dermalogica will also be supporting skin therapists who may not yet have completed bridging or next level training to Level 4 in Microneedling with a regulated qualification offer through the International Dermal Institute, with Pro Pen Endorsed certification eligible for credits.

This November, Dermalogica will launch microneedling and nanoneedling workshops for licenced professionals, to support ProPen usage and elevate techniques and knowledge of these technologies.
