Katherine Frizoni, Simple’s Senior R&D Manager, says: “The process of our skin renewing itself and naturally shedding dead skin cells to make way for newly grown ones is a delicate one. If thrown out of balance and dead skin cells accumulate, this can enhance other underlying skin issues, such as blemishes, uneven tone, and texture. Additionally, the build-up of dead skin cells can inhibit the absorption of creams.

The best way to address this is through exfoliation. This can either be physical, from a scrub for example, or through a mild chemical exfoliant such as an AHA. A mild chemical exfoliant, delivers exfoliation without the need for scrubbing, which can cause irritation. The Smoothing Gel Cleanser contains 5% Lactic Acid. This particular AHA is extremely well-suited to those with sensitive skin. AHAs work by gently dissolving the “glue” that holds the dead skin cells to the surface. This leads to an increase in skin cell turnover to renew and resurface the skin barrier and reveal soft, smooth healthy- looking skin. The cleanser also contains 7% of our Ceramide Boosting Technology, which boosts skin’s natural ceramide production, helping to strengthen skin’s protective barrier, so skin is better able to lock in moisture as well as being more resilient to external aggressors.”
