What To Do When Your Spray Tan Client Starts Feeling Faint
Spray tanning has become an essential service for many beauty enthusiasts seeking a sun-kissed glow without the harmful UV exposure. As a beauty professional, ensuring the safety and comfort of your clients is paramount. But what should you do when a client begins to feel faint during a spray tan session?
1. Before the Treatment
Before starting, ensure that your client has eaten something and is well-hydrated. Sometimes, the simple act of standing for an extended period can be taxing, especially on an empty stomach.
2. Monitor the Client’s Breathing
One element that can sometimes be overlooked, but is crucial to the comfort of your client, is the act of breathing. During spray tanning sessions, especially for those new to the experience, it's not uncommon for clients to hold their breath, especially when the spray is directed at their face. It's essential to remind your clients to breathe naturally throughout the procedure. Holding one's breath for too long can contribute to feelings of dizziness or lightheadedness.
Additionally, if clients express concerns about inhaling the tanning solution or find it difficult to breathe, consider offering them a paper mask. This can act as a barrier, ensuring they don't inhale any of the spray while still allowing for comfortable breathing. When used correctly, these masks can enhance the client's overall experience by providing an extra layer of comfort and safety.
3. Recognize the Symptoms
Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, and feeling hot or claustrophobic are all signs that a client might be about to faint. Being alert to these signs can help you react promptly.
4. Stop the Treatment
If a client expresses discomfort or shows signs of feeling faint, it's crucial to stop the treatment immediately. It's always better to prioritize the client's well-being over finishing the service. Have the client sit down, preferably with their head between their knees if they can manage. This position helps increase blood flow to the brain, alleviating feelings of dizziness. Hydration can counteract faintness. Have a bottle of water on hand and offer it to the client.
5. Provide Fresh Air
Ventilation is key. If your booth or room doesn't have good airflow, consider taking the client to a better-ventilated area or even outside for a few minutes. Fresh air can often alleviate feelings of faintness. Ensure that your spray tan booth or room isn't too warm. Excessive heat can make clients feel lightheaded. An oscillating fan can help circulate air and keep the space cool.
6. Keep Sugar Nearby
Sometimes, low blood sugar can be the culprit. Keeping some sugary snacks or glucose tablets on hand can be beneficial. Offer them to your client if you suspect a drop in blood sugar.
Your client's safety and comfort should always be at the forefront of any beauty treatment. While it's relatively rare for clients to feel faint during a spray tan session, being prepared and knowing how to respond can make all the difference.
