Bridal Trends for 2020
Salon owner of award-winning Oxford-based Anne Veck Salon shares her expectations for the year 2020 bridal trends, a year certain to flaunt minimalism and naturalism.
Fuss Free and Natural - 70’s Tousled & Textured
Hair is highly influenced by a 70’s tousled, layered, textured vibe for 2020. It’s about producing minimal fuss hair, and this ‘I haven’t even tried’ feel is making its way off the catwalk and down the aisle. Once, only boho brides would embrace their natural waves, but this season the less contrived your hair is, the better. Air-dry tresses and put them in messy low-buns and unpolished topknots, and don’t go overboard in smoothing down wispy bits. Effortless and confident is how you want to style your hair. Take a leaf out of Meghan Markle’s low bun, or wear your locks half-up, half-down, fully embracing the less is more mantra. Combine these understated, gently tonged curls with flower crowns and jewel encrusted headbands. If you’ve gone low key on your hair, then you can go all out with a crown of colour.
Extreme Ponytailing - High or Low, it’s all About the Ponys
Catwalk hair has been showcasing both high and low placed ponytails, with no mid positioned bobbles in sight. It’s all sleek and shiny, neat and ordered. Use hair bands the same colour as your hair and ensure the max amount of luxe by using Your Hair Assistant Perfecting Hairspray from Davines due to it’s rework-able nature and anti pollution factor. It’s classic simplicity.
Gelled Up - Bridal Hair Meets Rock Chick
Taking it a step further, gel is making its comeback from the 90’s and we’ll see brave brides slicking hair back into rockchick vibed bobs. Mid length hair still weaves in all of the looseness, independent and free-spirited feel of 70’s women finding their groove but expect to see raw edges. Not super clean cut, but weighty long bobs that sit between the jaw and collar bone. Add in a thick barrette resplendent in diamantes or pearls and you’ve brought your edgy style to church.
Centre Stage
A big trend will be the centre parting, which for DIY wedding hair, is as easy as it gets. Invest in a metal tail comb to get a super straight line, and then either go poker straight for impact, or embrace your natural texture enhancing it with spritzes from a salt spray. This centred 'do is a great option for straight haired brides who don't like curling their hair, especially those who struggle to achieve curls that keep their shape.Don’t shy away from this centre styling, even if you have tight curls or lots of curls, as defining them is going to be big and one of the boldest trends of the year.
Regal Bands
There’s no getting away from headbands getting bigger. High and bedazzled with pearls and jewels, these padded halfcrowns are the easiest way to add sparkle and impact to your look. They accentuate sleek styles, frame the face perfectly, and if you go for a colour opposite to your hair tone, wow! What a statement.
