Pink hair is trending and multi-award winning colourist and founder & creative director of STIL Salon, Christel Barron-Hough, has a magical new vision for it. Here we discover her latest cosmic colour trend - Stardust Pink.

Stardust Pink is a ultra fresh pink colour trend with a nod to fashion, nature and interstellar brights, Stardust Pink effortlessly blends wearability with creativity, and can be dialled up or down to match your personality. It’s also a look that’s not just for summer; Stardust pink has an organic vibrancy and tone to it making it a popular choice in the salon for AW24.

Reimagined for 2024, pink hair moves away from accents of candyfloss and coconut ice, taking a new direction inspired by the natural world - imagine clusters of pink blossoms, hints of delicate rose quartz and ethereal, pastel-toned sunsets.

Stardust Pink is inspired by Mother Earth and her feminine, celestial colour palette that appears in the sky before sunset, combined with pink crystals and the soft pink petals of magnolia flowers.

The Scandi colourist’s Stardust vision also merges high fashion with nature, taking note from the colour tones and subtle embellishments seen at Stella McCartney’ AW24 ready-to-wear runway - think blush tailoring, powder pink outerwear and cut-crystal detailing. All expertly blended with whispers of twilight skies, dreamy florals, and otherworldly sparkle.

What is the best technique to achieve Stardust Pink hair?

The method behind this look is divided into a two-step process which begins by preparing the base of the hair, followed by a freehand colour application to build a shimmering pink effect.

At STIL we use a double-processing technique to create the brightness of the hair first. Then the pink hue is hand painted in sections and carefully merged to create a stardust effect by seamlessly blending together delicate and saturated pink pigments.”

This playful colour trend is really versatile on a range of hair cuts and lengths. The tone and technique works great on bobs, shorter styles through to longer lengths with layers.

The key is to layer and merge the pink pigments so it works best on haircuts that have some length rather than pixie short hairstyles.

Maintaining the vibrancy and longevity of pink hair is easy with the right conditioning routine - as well as avoiding too much heat. A great way to top the colour up is to use a colour conditioner like Wella Professionals Pink Color Fresh Mask as it will both hydrate the hair and refresh pink hues to the hair. Using less heat on the hair is also important for pink hair as it can stop colour fading happening too quickly.

The trend for pink hair has been growing throughout 2024, with stars such as Michelle Williams revealing pink cosmos hues at the Met Gala, to super stylist Tina Leung showing dedication to her petal pink tint.

We’re noticing lots of celebrities playing with pink this year including Lucy Boynton, who stepped out with vibrant pink hair at Wimbledon, plus stars like IU Lee JI-eun have also experimented with the trend, and of course there’s the godmother of fashion and pink icon herself - Zandra Rhodes. Proof that pink has no limits.
