A cross-party group of MPs has recently announced the re-constitution of the Beauty, Aesthetics and Wellbeing All-Party Parliamentary Group (BAW APPG). This group aims to celebrate the British beauty industry, whilst improving industry standards and customer safety. It will also explore the various challenges faced by the beauty and aesthetics industry today.

One of the challenges they will be focusing on is how to raise the industry standards for training, qualifications, premises and hygiene. In addition to this, they also aim to ensure that all beauty practitioners adhere to established best practices, which should help to better protect the public. In order to address these challenges, key stakeholders across the beauty and aesthetics industry will be working with MPs, with all suggestions on how to improve regulations presented to the Government.

In addition to this, the group will host a panel series on ‘The Power of Beauty’, where they will explore wider topics in the industry, including sustainability, diversity, entrepreneurship and mental health.

Carolyn Harris and Judith Cummins MP, Co-Chairs of the BAW APPG, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our work to promote the UK’s beauty and aesthetics industry. The industry not only makes a vital contribution to our economy by employing more than one million people and keeping the high streets alive, but also supports the wellbeing of people up and down the country.

“We look forward to hearing of the beauty sector’s successes while exploring the challenges they face. We also believe it is important to address the lack of consistent and high-quality standards to protect customers and ensure the industry continues to thrive.”

This news has been widely supported by the industry, and was especially welcomed by the National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF), one of the UK’s largest trade association for hairdressing, barbering and beauty salon owners.

Caroline Larissey, NHBF director of quality and standards, said: “The NHBF is delighted to be sponsoring the activities of the All-Party Parliamentary Group. The relaunch of the APPG is a huge positive step towards raising awareness in Government and supporting the beauty, aesthetics and wellbeing industries. The group will highlight the benefits and explore the challenges faced by industry, practitioners and consumers.”
