Taylor, an immunocompromised 26 year old nail artist from Washington, was left in disbelief after one of her clients revealed they had attended their nail appointment, whilst knowingly testing positive for COVID-19.

The unnamed woman texted Taylor, following her appointment, suggesting that Taylor should ‘please quarantine’, as she had tested positive for COVID-19 just two days prior. She tried to justify her actions by highlighting how ‘bad’ her nails were and how she ‘desperately’ needed to ‘get out of the house’.

'I feel really bad and should not have shown up for my appointment but I desperately needed my nails done! I tested positive for the virus two days ago soooooo please quarantine yourself,' said the client’s text.

Her initial text was then followed by: 'I was just desperate to get out of the house! I was quarantine [sic] in two days,' the client told Taylor. I'm sorry! I needed my nails done sooooooo bad! You saw how bad they were!'

Tayor’s story gained traction after the text messages were shared in a Facebook post. Shortly after, they went viral after being posted on the popular Instagram page known as The Shade Room. The Instagram post generated over 10,000 comments from individuals shocked and outraged that someone would risk another person’s life just to have a manicure.

'Imagining risking someone's entire life for nails that'll last two weeks,' said one commenter. Another comment added: 'I would be so upset. That is not okay. She is putting her business in jeopardy for her damn nails. Hell no!'

Instagram commenters also suggested that Taylor press charges and that she should have the client arrested. Taylor then confirmed that she reported the client; although, the authority’s response has not yet been established. However, it is likely that they will take action, as the client’s actions were not only selfish, they were also illegal. Washington's Phase 2 COVID-19 requirements state that: 'clients must self-screen for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 before arriving at the service provider location.'

Despite being exposed to the virus, Taylor maintains a positive outlook, thanking all her online supporters.

'I can’t believe how this literally has spread across this world like wild fire. Let’s protect ourselves and each other,'. ‘'If there is anything I have learned in the last 24 hours, there may be a handful of unthoughtful people like this ex client who did this to me yesterday, but this world is a beautiful place with a whole lot of people in it willing to do what’s right.’
