Cibtac Announces Launch of New Nail Qualification to Level Up Sector Expertise

The Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (CIBTAC) has been producing beauty, complementary & spa therapy graduates of the highest calibre since 1977. Offering a wide range of world-class qualifications, including beauty therapy, spa, complementary and teaching, the organisation strives to maintain and develop the highest standards of excellence internationally.

Nail technology continues to develop at a fast pace, with new innovations meaning that training courses need to keep up with the latest techniques. CIBTAC is pleased to announce the launch of a new nail qualification, in response to the latest developments in the sector, as well as requests from both experts and employers looking for a comprehensive qualification covering the newer nail enhancement systems.

With many nail technicians opting to undergo their training via online or CPD courses, CIBTAC identified a need for a fully inclusive and regulated qualification. Whilst short online and CPD courses serve a purpose, they are not regulated qualifications and therefore should not be compared or confused with a qualification of this type. The new course offering from CIBTAC aims to give aspiring nail experts the opportunity to secure a comprehensive, OFQUAL regulated qualification, that provides learners with an opportunity to master established nail enhancement systems, as well as newer ones. It has also been written to allow further advancements to be able to be added in as additional modules easily.

CEO and Chair of BABTAC & CIBTAC, Lesley Blair MBE says, “We’re so pleased to announce the launch of our new nail tech qualification. Anyone who undergoes this comprehensive OFQUAL regulated course, can be assured that they have developed the best knowledge and skill base possible for all nail technology and have secured a qualification that will be fit for purpose for any potential licensing requirements in the future.”

Following consultations with sector specialists such as expert nail professional and founder of Nail Tech Awareness, Suzanne Clayton, the new CIBTAC qualification is mapped to the new National Occupational Standard (NOS) for nail treatments and covers everything a therapist needs to know in order to carry out manicures and pedicures in either a salon, spa or training role.

The new qualification is delivered by blended methods, with some learning delivered online and all practical delivery and assessment conducted face-to-face to ensure learners are taught comprehensively. The course includes the following units:

  • Monitor & maintain health & safety

  • Manicure & pedicure services

  • Apply and maintain liquid & powder, gel and wrap nail (or structured nail) enhancement systems

  • Gel Polish services

  • Prepare & enhance nails using electric files
