The Grand Announces £2.5 Million Spa Refurbishment
The Grand, York has announced a significant renovation of its spa and gym facilities, marking a pivotal moment in the hotel's commitment to wellness and guest experience. From 1st May 2025, the spa will close for the transformation, with plans to reopen in early 2026 with state-of-the-art facilities and innovative wellness offerings all uniquely within the centre of York.
The extensive renovation represents a £2.5m investment in The Grand's wellness philosophy, focusing on creating a cutting-edge spa environment that meets the evolving expectations of modern travellers. The project will comprehensively redesign treatment rooms, introduce advanced wellness technologies, and expand relaxation spaces to provide an unparalleled and unique guest experience in the heart of York.
With the UK spa market currently valued at approximately £3.1 billion and annual projected growth of 6%, this leisure activity is a thriving past time, with 19 million British adults visiting a spa in the last 12 months.

The renovation will see the existing spa’s design be transformed, introducing a brand-new Tirol hot sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, a state-of-the-art large hydrotherapy pool, foot spas, relaxation rooms and more, as well as the addition of a restaurant area for spa day package holders to an impressive food & beverage offering.

During this refurbishment, The Grand, York will transform two bedrooms into treatment rooms, and skilled therapists will still offer an abundance of indulgent Elemis treatments to work away tension, deeply cleanse and leave guests feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Other wellbeing offerings throughout the closure include in-room gym kits, Grand running routes and use of Grand bicycles enabling guests to explore the city.
