67% of Consumers Consider Beauty Sleep to be More Important than Skincare

L’oreal’s trend report for last year, showed how consumers beauty routines are becoming increasingly holistic. In fact, getting enough sleep (67%), drinking plenty of water (57%) and relaxation (56%) are all considered more important factors in caring for your appearance than using skincare products (53%).

Now, while you should abandon your skincare routine completely - the fact is, that beauty sleep can improve your skin, as sleep is when most of your internal and epidermal recovery takes place.

The effects of a lack of sleep are self-evident to many, poor sleep can cause

  • hanging eyelids

  • swollen eyes

  • darker undereye circles

  • paler skin

  • more wrinkles and fine lines

  • more droopy corners of the mouth

Sleep is the time when your body repairs itself, and so, during sleep, your skin’s blood flow increases and the organ rebuilds its collagen and repairs damage from UV exposure, reducing wrinkles and age spots. That’s why it’s key to getting the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep each night.

And to enhance the effects of sleep on your skin, you can pair it with skincare - overnight moisturisers and night products can help boost collagen production at night and repair the barrier of your skin.
