AMAN: Behind the Luxury Spa and Wellness Brand

We recently had the pleasure of visiting the Aman Spa based at the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair and we fell in love with the legendary Thai brand.

The Aman Spa is an oasis of tranquillity that reflects the hotel’s inimitable style and Aman Resorts Asian inspired aesthetic. Five low-lit treatment rooms (one double and four single) feature a treatment area, private dressing area and shower. In addition to its five luxurious low-lit treatment rooms, the spa features a cascading granite water wall in a subtly-lit 60 square metre vitality-pool, steam room and fitness studio with the very latest in Technogym equipment. The real USP of the Aman Spa, however, is its signature treatments that reflect the traditional rituals of renewal from around the world and the use of their own brand Aman Skincare products.

In 1988, on the west coast of Phuket, Thailand, the acclaimed Aman retreat was born. The very first ‘Place of Peace’, Amanpuri offered an escape from the everyday for those seeking the seclusion, serenity, privacy and appreciation of local culture. Since then, Asia has remained Aman’s original home. Today, the Aman brand encompasses 33 resorts, hotels and private residences in 20 countries, Aman continues to seek out transformative experiences and awe-inspiring locations around the world with a further seven coming soon, taking the brand to 40 resorts in 22 countries.

Across the treatments and product ranges, the brand is separated into three pathways; grounding, nourishing and purifying. Blended to bring both tangible physical benefits and lasting emotional balance, the three formulations reflect distinct pathways to wellness. Our treatment consisted of the nourishing massage. This blissful, nurturing treatment is ideal for physically or emotionally exhausted souls. The use of marma point therapy brings the body back to a state of heightened awareness and balance, while rhythmic massage techniques ease muscular tension, imbuing a sense of complete restoration. The use of sound healing activates the kundalini - dormant energy stores at the base of the spine. The nourishing formation encourages reconnection to oneself, while simultaneously restoring and rejuvenating the body on a physical level. Key ingredients across the products used include Jasmine stem cells, sandalwood, vitamin B12, fresh royal jelly, jade crystals, silk and gold. They have all been chosen for their powerful regenerative abilities, fostering a meditative state and feeling of joy.

The Aman Skincare range continues the holistic journey, connecting the spa treatment and using precious ingredients from around the world to transport, restore and transform. Aman Skincare has been developed to bring both tangible physical benefits and lasting emotional balance. Aman purchases their ingredients from suppliers who support farmers and work sustainably, as well as supporting their community. A number of ingredients are certified organic, wild-harvested and first pressed at source.
