With salons preparing to get back to work when the national lockdown is expected to end in February, owners have found they are struggling to secure professional salon supplies such as hair colours as these are often imported from Germany, Italy and France.

Salon owners that are entirely reliant on international brands face rebranding or additional costs once they have to restock. Other than this, importing products for a business comes with added bureaucracy, forms, applications and authorisations, the paperwork time takes away from treatments.

Mike Patey, general manager of the Hair and Beauty Supplier's’ Association described the extra bureaucracy for his members as “horrendous, an absolute disaster”.

Other than hair products, beauty therapist face issues with importing PPE equipment such as protective gloves.
