False eyelashes can give your eyes a dramatic look, the right pair for your eye shape can instantly transform your look to ultimate glam. There is no denying that application can be tricky to master, anyone who has tried strip false lashes will understand this! All it takes is a few beauty hacks to achieve a full and flirty look without a lot of effort.

When applying falsies, you need confidence, whilst you might not get it right the first time, shaky hands are the last thing you need. Social media is home to mind blowing hacks, but it can be hard to distinguish which ones will work.

1)    Match your eye shape

It’s a frustrating realisation that not all lashes are going to suit you. Sometimes they might feel right but visually, they might not compliment your eye shape if they’re the wrong fit and style. Once you know yours, you can stock up on the right strip lashes for you. One of the most common types are hooded eyes, this shape needs more depth to enhance your eyes. Others include round, monolid, almond, deep set, wide set and prominent.

2)    Double up on your eyelashes

If you’re aiming for an intense, dramatic look from your falsies, you can double up. Try stacking two sets of lashes to achieve extra volume and impact. All you need to do is join two falsies together by gluing before application. This will not only add thickness but will also bring out the shape of your eyes. You can experiment with this hack by layering two of the same lash sets or pairing together ones with different textures such as a full set and a wispies set. If you want to accentuate your cat-eye, stack on a second pair of lashes that are fuller and longer on the outer edges.

3)    Trim your lashes for an exact fit

Sometimes, your lashes can fit you perfectly from the box. However, most strip lashes are designed to fit a wide range of different eye shapes and sizes so the lash band will be long. If the lash looks too long for your lash line, use small lash scissors to trim strands from the outermost part of the strip. Cut a little at a time as it can be easy to misjudge and over trim. Hold it up against your lash line again to measure it and continue this process until they are the perfect size for you.

4)    Pull away glue with a pair of tweezers

If you’re reusing your lashes, overtime you might find a build-up of glue residue. This can make your lashes feel heavy and leave you with a bulkier appearance when you wear them. To clean away excess glue after each wear, hold your lashes in one hand and very gently pull away built-up areas of glue with a pair of tweezers.

5)    Use adhesive eyeliner

Adhesive eyeliner can be used with any strip lash and is a great alternative for those who don’t like using traditional adhesive. A hack which is used by many influencers is to apply the black adhesive directly on your eyelids just like liquid eyeliner. On top of your already done eyes, start on the outer corners and move inward. Apply the lashes on top of the glue and squeeze them together with your real lashes.

6)    Use a spoolie and squeeze

Once you’re happy with the position and size of your eyelashes, use a clean spoolie to brush your natural and fake lashes together. A spoolie is usually found on the opposite end of an eyebrow pencil but you can buy disposable ones online. After you brush them out, use your tweezers or fingers to gently squeeze your natural lashes and the strip lashes together so they blend in for a natural finish with no sign of glue.

7)    Wait until the glue is tacky

When applying lashes with traditional adhesive, don’t rush to apply them straight away. Wait around 30-40 seconds after you apply the thin line of glue to keep the strip from sliding around your eyes and making a mess. This will also reduce the time it takes to dry on your eyelids. Make sure you get an even amount of coverage on the ends of the strip as this is where they tend to pull first.
