SheaMoisture UK have announced that as part of their global Community Commerce business model, they have launched a £40,000 fund to support UK black female owned salons survive during Covid-19, supporting the communities that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. The move comes after the success of the 1 Million Dollar Community Commerce Fund that was launched in April to support minority businesses in the USA.

The SheaMoisture UK Community Commerce Salon Relief Fund will gift 3 grants of £10,000 to 3 separate salon owners, and 5 grants of £2,000 to five different salon owners. From 18th May – 31st May 2020, black female salon owners are being encouraged to enter the fund via social media at SheaMoisture UK’s Instagram page @SheaMoistureUK, and via this survey.

The SheaMoisture UK Community Commerce Salon Relief Fund will gift grants to salon owners who can demonstrate how their business supports their community, how the funds will support their staff, elevate their future business goals and how they can demonstrate that they have positively adapted their business during Covid-19 – whether moving elements of their business online, donating to local hygiene banks and more.

Winners of the fund will be selected by an expert judging panel. Editorial and Celebrity Hairstylist Stefan Bertin, Entrepreneur and Founder of Treasure Tress, Jamelia Donaldson and natural hair influencer and owner of O So Curly, Shannon Fitzsimmons, aka UKCurlyGirl. They will also be joined by Entrepreneur and Founder of WCAN and Oja, Mariam Jimoh.

"We could not be prouder to launch our first Community Commerce initiative in the UK. COVID-19 has brought unprecedented challenges to black female salon owners, and it is important to SheaMoisture that we help to protect them during this time. We want to demonstrate the power of black-owned businesses, to help their communities, and we also hope to minimise the financial disruptions that many are experiencing due to the global crisis. SheaMoisture was founded in these communities, and we will always find new ways to support and serve them. Community Commerce is at the heart of everything we do at SheaMoisture. Each day we challenge ourselves to use commerce as means to transform local and global communities – and create a fairer, more beautiful word.” – Simone Jordan, Head of Community Commerce, Sundial Brands

The recipients of the SheaMoisture UK Community Commerce Salon Relief Fund will be announced on 5th June 2020.
