Spas, Wellness Centres and Massage Parlours to Close Due to New Social Distancing Measures
Following the press conference today, the communities secretary Robert Jenrick has said the new social distancing measures announced by the Prime Minister will be in place for 14 days then reviewed, and has also provided a definitive list of places that are to close:
Food & drink venues
Pubs, bars and clubs
Cinemas, theatres, concert and bingo halls
Spas, indoor leisure and gyms
Casinos & betting shops
Museums & galleries
The government further updates its website to clarify that the measures on social distancing extend to “Spas, wellness centres and massage parlours”. We understand that while hairdressing salons, aesthetic clinics and beauty salons are not explicitly mentioned, this will nonetheless affect many beauty therapists working within spas, and holistic spaces.
It is also understood that many insurances are already interpreting this new legislation as to apply to beauty salons - not solely due to the fact that the legislation aims to minimise social contact. The same contact is provided in beauty salons as in spas, and there is no clear cut line between the services provided.
We understand that the lack of clarification is difficult and will continue to seek urgent clarification.
