This new aesthetic procedure gives those unhappy with the shape or size of their nose an opportunity to take back their body confidence without having to go under the knife - or having to spend thousands of pounds to get the results they desire. Longer-lasting, more versatile and offering several advantages when it comes to non-surgical rhinoplasties involving dermal fillers.

Until recently, if you wanted to change the shape or size of your nose, your only option would be to go under the knife for a surgical rhinoplasty. And as well as the risks of anaesthetic, infection-post surgery, long recovery time and pain associated with surgical rhinoplasties, these treatments are typically very expensive too. Making them impractical for many of us.

All of this is about to change, thanks to esteemed Harley Street Surgeon Dr Mahsa Saleki - founder of sas Aesthetics, who by developing her own advanced non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure using threads, has devised a treatment the first of its kind to rival the results achieved via surgery. Her Nose Thread procedure is the only non-surgical solution able to actually reduce the size of the nose (something dermal fillers can't achieve) - offering longer-lasting, more beneficial (structurally) results than other non-surgical solutions.

Nose Threads or Dermal Filler?

Whilst using dermal filler is extremely effective in balancing the side profile of a nose with one main lump on the bridge (where filler can be injected above and below the hump to disguise it) Nose Threads have many additional benefits for the patient, and many advantages.

Nose Thread Need-To-Knows:

"The main difference between the two is the longevity of the results," explains Dr Mahsa Saleki. "PDO Thread Lifts typically last within 9-12 months, whereas PLL Threads generally last 2-3x longer than that."

"If you love the result of your PDO Thread Lift you can always top it up with PLL threads to keep it looking that way for longer. The fact that the threads dissolve naturally over time make these treatments the perfect stepping stone pre-surgery, so the client can test-drive their new nose before committing to it permanently by going under the knife."

Nose Threads last longer than non-surgical rhinoplasties using dermal filler. This makes them better value for money - plus there are an assortment of other benefits Nose Threads have when compared to dermal fillers. Unlike fillers, threads don't add any volume to the treated area. Just structure and definition - which means for those with wider / more bulbous noses, threads are a much better choice. They can lift and sculpt bulbous tips without making them bigger; instead sculpting them into a slimmer shape.

Nose threads can also reduce the size and shape of the nostrils by lifting the bridge of the nose, which simultaneously lifts the nostrils. Finally, threads can actually make the nose smaller and slimmer - unlike fillers, which just give you the illusion of a more balanced side profile, whilst actually adding volume to the nose in order to do so.

Even when the results have worn off and the threads have dissolved, you'll be left with a more refined nose than before. This is because the PDO/PLL threads stimulate collagen production in the skin, which improves its quality and rejuvenates the treated area. This means that once the threads have dissolved, the treated area will be left tauter than pre-treatment.

How does it work?

"Cog PDO suspension sutures are used to achieve a non-surgical result of lifting the tip of the nose and simultaneously straightening the bridge; in cases where a drop of the nasal tip is the main client concern" Shares Dr Mahsa.

"Following injection of local anaesthetic (usually xylocaine), PDO sutures are introduced under the skin using a blunt cannula," Dr Mahsa continues. "This ensures reduced trauma and likelihood of structural damage to veins, arteries and nerves during the procedure. Once placed under the skin, the sutures are tightened and continue to support the skin to hold the nasal tip in a more lifted position. This in turn increases the nose lip angle, creating a more flattering result."

"In some cases where a flat bridge is a concern PDO threads can be used to build and create nasal bridge that is more defined. This technique has a more precise method of creating a nasal bridge and is comparable to cartilage reconstruction of the nose to heighten the body and bridge (particularly popular with some of our Asian and African patients, for whom this technique is particularly desirable)."

"Both techniques are safe and on average take 15-20 minutes to do. The downtime is relatively short with common symptoms of swelling and bruising usually reported in the first week, which quickly ease."

"In some cases (typically patients with heavy nasal tips) a repeat procedure may be advised after 6-8 weeks. These final results can be expected to last upto one year - and in some cases where a longer lasting suture material is chosen, a result of up to 3 years may be observed."

"Compared to dermal fillers PDO suspension sutures have the added advantage of maintaining - and in some cases reducing, the size of the nose. In cases where dermal fillers alone are used, clients tend to complain that dermal fillers makes their nose look bigger... which is why this technique is an ideal alternative. In addition to this, PDO Nose Lifts tend to better support the dynamic changes of the nasal flare - particularly when smiling. The extra scaffold given to the nose prevents the tip from drooping."
