Cryotherapy Accident Leaves One Dead and Another Critical

​A tragic incident at the On Air gym in Paris has resulted in the death of a 29-year-old employee and left a 34-year-old client in critical condition following a nitrogen leak during a cryotherapy session. The leak occurred in the cryotherapy chamber, leading to oxygen displacement and causing both individuals to collapse. Emergency services were unable to revive the employee, while the client remains hospitalized in critical condition. ​

Cryotherapy, a treatment involving exposure to extremely low temperatures using liquid nitrogen, is popular among athletes and wellness enthusiasts for its purported benefits, including muscle recovery and inflammation reduction. However, this incident highlights the potential dangers associated with the procedure, particularly in non-medical settings where safety protocols may be insufficient.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the leak, with initial reports suggesting that plumbing work had been carried out at the gym earlier that day. The gym has been closed indefinitely, and approximately 150 people were evacuated from the facility following the incident. ​
