Decléor Set for a Comeback Under New Ownership by Cospal

Decléor, the renowned aromatherapy skincare brand, is set to make a significant return to the beauty industry following its acquisition by Cospal, a newly established French brand builder led by Matthieu Lesieur. This strategic move aims to revitalise Decléor's presence in the market, offering consumers access to its esteemed range of essential oil-based skincare products.

Founded in 1974 by Solange Dessimoulie, Decléor gained acclaim for its innovative use of essential oils in skincare. The brand was acquired by Shiseido in 2000 and later by L’Oréal in 2014, alongside the Carita brand, for approximately €230 million. Under L’Oréal's ownership, Decléor was integrated into the Professional Products Division, aiming to strengthen the company's position in the professional skincare market.

In October 2023, L’Oréal announced the discontinuation of Decléor, ceasing its production and commercialisation. This decision was part of L’Oréal's strategy to focus on brands with strong identities and complementary portfolios.

On 12 December 2024, Cospal acquired Decléor and Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc from L’Oréal. Matthieu Lesieur, founder of Cospal, aims to build a portfolio in the beauty and wellness markets. Notably, Lesieur has familial ties to Decléor, as his father acquired the brand in the late 1980s.

Under Cospal's ownership, Decléor is poised for a resurgence, with plans to reintroduce its signature aromatherapy skincare lines. The acquisition reflects a commitment to honouring Decléor's heritage while adapting to contemporary market demands. Industry observers anticipate that Cospal's strategic vision will restore Decléor's prominence in the beauty sector, offering consumers renewed access to its high-quality, essential oil-infused products.
