Wildsmith Launches 100% Home Compostable Packaging

Wildsmith is taking a bold step towards sustainable beauty with the launch of its 100% home compostable packaging, developed in collaboration with Shellworks, an industry leader in biodegradable materials.

Vivomer is a biopolymer derived from natural microbes and plant-based sources, offering the durability of plastic without its environmental harm. Unlike conventional materials, Vivomer is recognised by microbes as a natural food source, allowing it to break down completely within 12-52 weeks in a home compost environment. No waste. No trace.

Katherine Pye, General Manager of Wildsmith, shared the brand’s commitment to sustainability: “From our first meeting, we have been inspired by Shellworks’ vision and team ingenuity when it comes to reimagining a world without plastic. This partnership and our introduction of Vivomer in 2025 is a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to constant innovation and discovering new ways to minimise our environmental impact as we put conscious packaging and sustainable manufacturing to the fore.”

Which Wildsmith Products Are Transitioning to Vivomer?

Launching in March 2025 on WildsmithSkin.com, the first products to feature the new home compostable packaging will be:

  • Active Repair Copper Peptide Cream

  • Ceramide Repair Balm

As existing glass jar packaging sells through, an additional four products will transition to Vivomer throughout 2025:

  • Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm (100ml)

  • Super Hydrating Overnight Mask

  • Dual Action Exfoliating Treatment

  • Double Clay Refining Mask

Shellworks, founded in 2019 in London, has pioneered alternatives to plastic with a mission to eliminate plastic pollution through high-performance, compostable materials. Amir Afshar, co-founder of Shellworks, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration:

“We met Wildsmith early in our journey, and their focus on constantly improving their impact has kept us close over the years. At Shellworks, we love working with pioneering brands like Wildsmith who are eager to help shape the future of an industry and change our relationship to plastic; we're excited to now be in the position to launch some products together!”
