Billions of searches are performed on Google every single day. Whilst each individual search carries little information, by combining these search queries together, Google has access to incredibly powerful data. This allows them to predict and report on future trends. So, to stay on top of your game, here are the biggest wellness trends you need to know for 2020:

CBD Skincare: 367% increase in searches

CBD is popping up everywhere nowadays. It’s in facemasks, moisturising creams, candles and even cookies. The increasingly popular ingredient CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is derived from the cannabis plant but is completely legal as it is non-psychoactive. This means, unlike its popular party counterpart THC, it does not make you high. So if there’s no associated high, what’s all the fuss about? Well, CBD is advertised to have anti-inflammatory properties. This enables it to calm the skin and reduce redness, making it very popular amongst acne sufferers. Additionally, owing to its antioxidant properties, its use in anti-ageing products has also sky-rocketed in recent years.

Sound Bath Healing: 285% increase in searches

With the increase in mental health awareness we are all being encouraged to take more time to ourselves to meditate and reflect. As the name suggests, sound bath healing involves ‘bathing’ in sounds. These particular frequencies are believed to trigger different parts of your brain, to help reduce your anxiety and help you relax. The popularity of sound bath healing is only expected to rise, especially in conjunction with other activities that promote mindfulness including yoga and meditation.

Virtual Wellness: 242% increase in searches

Fitting work, socialising and ‘me-time’ into your daily routine can be a difficult task, even for the most organised people! This is why virtual wellness is becoming increasingly popular. As people want to improve their wellbeing wherever they are, fewer individuals are relying on fitness classes and gyms. The demand for workouts that are accessible 24/7 and that fit around busy schedules is causing more people to turn to apps and online classes.

Breathing Apps: 219% increase in searches

Breathing exercises have become extremely popular in recent times. The Wim Hof method has inspired people worldwide to consider the wider benefits of improving their breathing technique. Partaking in daily breathing exercises is thought to have many associated benefits. Some of these benefits include: stress and tension relief, improved energy levels and improved digestion. Once again, the increase in online breathing exercises and apps is allowing people to practice these in the comfort of their own homes.

Wellness Retreats: 182% increase in searches

When thinking about holidays, your mind might turn to immersive cultural experiences, partying, or perhaps just lounging in the sun, trying to get a nice tan. However, it appears that many people are becoming more interested in using holidays as a time to meditate and reflect, to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. This often involves booking silent-stays, or yoga retreats. Whilst we often associate these trips with celebrities and influencers, the search volume doesn’t lie. These holidays are becoming much more mainstream and accessible for all. So why not skip the annual trip to Ibiza and try something new?
