Optical Express Acquires SKN Group

Optical Express Group has announced the acquisition of SKN Group, also known as SKIN Aesthetics, along its entities, including The Harley Medical Group, Skin Brands, The Skin Experts, and ABC Medical. This acquisition, finalised on 26th July 2024, follows the unfortunate closure of over 70 branches of these companies, which had resulted in job losses for over 450 employees and left numerous patients in need.

David Moulsdale, Chairman and CEO of Optical Express, expressed his excitement about this strategic move, highlighting its potential to reduce the strain on the NHS by continuing to provide essential medical and aesthetic services. Moulsdale has already visited several clinics and is focused on integrating the acquired businesses into the Optical Express framework efficiently.

The acquisition will see a consolidation of clinic locations, bringing the number down to around 60, and expanding Optical Express’s service offerings to include the renowned aesthetic treatments provided by SKN Group and The Harley Medical Group. This integration aims to enhance patient care and leverage the expertise of the existing teams to offer a broader range of services, including oculoplastics and other facial treatments.

Optical Express is committed to re-recruiting as many former employees of the acquired companies as possible, recognising their valuable experience and dedication. This effort will be spearheaded by the company's HR and Recruitment teams in the coming days.

“Over the coming days, weeks and months ahead there will be further updates with regards to this exciting development for our Group. I am so grateful to each of you for your ongoing hard work and unwavering loyalty. We have a challenging time ahead but I am certain that this acquisition is the right thing for all patients and ex-employees" comments David Moulsdale, chairman and CEO of the Optical Express Group.

Earlier this week it was announced that Skinbrands and distributed brands including Medik8, Epionce and Grande Cosmetics has partered with Wigmore Medical as its distributor for the UK and Ireland, while Epionce joined Dermapure Clinical's portfolio.
